this past weekend was ah-mazing, and one of my favorite so far in 2010!  it was a weekend full  of weddings  !  it was a weekend to celebrate 2 of our wonderful couples that we are so lucky to have worked with!!!  it was a weekend to kick off the busiest time of year for us!  it was a weekend to introduce the new absolutely intern, monica, to the wonderful world of wedd ings!  (i think she is officially "hooked!")  and it was a weekend to work with some fantastic vendors !!!

first, on friday, we had a southern style, tent wedding reception for  jillian and jon  at the coronado marriott and ceremony at sacred heart on coronado. everywhere that the eye could see was prettiness  !!   and everything that was experienced by jillian and jon and their guests was wonderfulness !!    gorgeous linens from concepts event design and white paper lanterns blowing in the breeze outside of the tent for cocktail hour and hung inside the tent on dimmer lighting thanks to the allstar group!  sunflowers and other gorgeous wild flowers and green adorned the tables and made up the gorgeous bouquets and other personal flowers of the bridal party and family, thanks to the always talented leigh of posies flowers!!   guests were treated to a great dinner by the coronado marriott, scrumptious cake by st. tropez,  and to delicious mini-donuts made on-site by the fabulous dolce donuts; and dolce was kind enough to  make sure that everyone, vendors included, got to partake in their tasty treats!  everyone in attendance as a guest and working the event as a vendor were lucky enough to listen to the sounds of tim altbaum who did a great job as dj and mc for the night!  and thanks to amore (video) and frozen motion photography, all of the prettiness and wonderfulness of the night has been captured forever!!!

then, on sunday, we got to celebrate the union of ruthie and alfonso at their wedding reception held at the legacy plaza at ntc promenade!  another successful party, with beautiful market lighting provided by lighting phreek and adorned with white paper lanterns, compliments of the absolutely events inventory, candy buffet in the couples wedding colors by absolutely events, and stunning florals by leigh of posies flowers!!!  special thanks to east lake party rentals for providing all of the necessities for a dinner reception, to macaroni grill for the lovely dinner, and to vynce of music phreek for his hard work and a job well done in getting everyone on the dance floor and keeping them all entertained!  a family friend added a personal touch to the celebration by making cake, cupcakes, and chocolate covered strawberries for all to enjoy; great job, laura!!  we can't wait to see the  photos and videos of the event, taken by amore!!!

a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to these two fantastic weddings! and a special thank you to the absolutely assistants and intern for their hard work this past weekend; courtney, colleen, and monica – you rock!   i am so lucky to have the 3 of you  by my side!

jenn and josh are an AWESOME  couple!  we hit it off right away at the sip and see event, and i am beyond excited for their wedding next year, not only because they are just so fun and such a cute couple, but because they are on their way to planning such a fantastic celebration for themselves!!!  their wedding will be held at one of my favorite venues, the san diego wild animal park (woot!)  AND  they have booked dapper images for their wedding photography (double woot!)  check out some of the amazing, amazing photos that the very talented yas and deshun of dapper images took of our cute couple back earlier this year:

so much more to share, but for now i will keep you all in suspense for now.  i'm headed out of town for a few days with my wonderful hubs in celebration of our anniversary.  that is right!  we're taking advantage of a wedding-free weekend with a quick trip!  happy anniversary to us!

. . . and although i’m not a huge “jewelry girl” myself, my favorite item in this new collection may just be the pave crystal flower ring . . .

i didn’t actually watch the full season of the bachelor featuring jason and molly, but i was definitely aware of all of the drama surrounding the ultimate decision of jason’s to ditch melissa and be with molly.  who didn’t hear about that?!  shocking . . . so although i am not an avid follower of their relationship, i am an avid follower of weddings and will be watching with bated breath tonight while i soak in all of the details of what i am sure will be an incredible, impeccably designed event!

and although my dad, sister and i LOVED to torment my poor mother by changing words within her chosen quotes or writing our own comments or quotes up next to her selection for the week – i won’t lie, usually this resulted in something innappropriate or harrassing of my mom – she continued to write her quotes, hoping to inspire us. 

well . . . she did.  at least with me.  i now have my own little chalkboard that i have displayed in our kitchen on a stand, and i write my own quotes and messages up there.  and now, it is my turn to be tormented.  i may have taken to writing and displaying my own quotes, but my husband has taken to changing my quotes, drawing on them and sometimes erasing them and writing his own.  mom, if you are reading this, then you were right!  payback has come my way!!!

however, my husband’s “creativity” has not stopped me and i continue to share little sayings and quotes on my chalkboard.  tonight, i changed our chalkboard to read “i love you today.”  it is my favorite quote, and it actually originates from my husband.  so perhaps there is a chance it will stay up on the chalkboard, untouched by him, for a few days!

my husband took to sometimes telling me “i love you today” while we were dating (rather than saying he loved me, and leaving it at that).  at first, i have to admit, i was a little offended.  what – you didn’t love me yesterday?!?  how about tomorrow?!?  only today?!?  but it grew on me when i began to realize that it was his way of telling me he loved me, in a way that i would listen and not just accept those words as part of a daily routine like “i love you”  sometimes turns into.   and those words, “i love you today,” quickly became my most favorite words to hear.  and still are. 

“i love you today” is a phrase we each ended up incoporating to our wedding vows to one another, without talking to each other about it beforehand or planning it.  it has become our quote.  and writing it up on my chalkboard this evening got me to wondering if anyone else has a favorite quote (famous or not).  do you?  and it also got me thinking that a quote or phrase or other saying that a couple has with each other, or that they are both particularly fond of, would be the perfect inspiration to which to center their wedding around.  what better way to personalize a celebration, than to center it around personal words that hold personal meaning?  not just incorporate it, like my husband and i did, but really design the wedding around the special words.   i realize that this is likely not a new concept or idea,  but the epiphany has me thinking for future weddings . . .

and thus, based on the inspirations gained from the quote by my husband and my mother’s chalkboard, i think  i’ll occasionally post  quotes that i like.  this will be a forum for my “chalk-blog!”

the tradition and acceptable social etiquette used to be to ask the bride’s father for permission to marry his daughter.  it was only proper!  however in today’s world women have much more independent roles in society and my personal belief is that the custom is no longer “mandatory,” necessarily.  BUT . . . i also personally believe that this tradition is a lovely, lovely gesture and a charming thing to do.  not to mention a huge sign of respect for a woman’s father (or other significant male figure in her life).  it is a fantastic opportunity for a future groom to further his relationship with his love’s family.  it will usually “score points” with the father, and with the bride-to-be.  many women, despite ”running their own shows,” would still likely appreciate her boyfriend taking that initiative and considering her family’s thoughts and feelings.
