dear angie . . .

Filed under: dear angie . . . — Angie @ 8:05 pm

today, i was asked by a friend of mine, who will remain nameless as he intends on proposing to his lovely girlfriend in the near future, whether i thought it was necessary for him to ask her father for permission.  what a fabulous question!  i get asked wedding questions all of the time, and i thought that this question was a wonderful start to an occasionaldear angie blog post.  so here we go!  my answer:

~~~~~
the tradition and acceptable social etiquette used to be to ask the bride’s father for permission to marry his daughter.  it was only proper!  however in today’s world women have much more independent roles in society and my personal belief is that the custom is no longer “mandatory,” necessarily.  BUT . . . i also personally believe that this tradition is a lovely, lovely gesture and a charming thing to do.  not to mention a huge sign of respect for a woman’s father (or other significant male figure in her life).  it is a fantastic opportunity for a future groom to further his relationship with his love’s family.  it will usually “score points” with the father, and with the bride-to-be.  many women, despite ”running their own shows,” would still likely appreciate her boyfriend taking that initiative and considering her family’s thoughts and feelings
Photos from the Sip & See!
Filed under: what we are up to . . . — Angie @ 11:08 pm
so i know i took a short hiatus from blogging, and an apology is definitely in order – i’m sorry!!!
however, it was for good reason!  i spent much of last week preparing and finalizing plans for the first ever sip & see, which was a fabulous time!  what a nice way to spend a sunday; visiting with couples in various stages of their wedding planning and getting to toss around ideas and listen to the things they were most looking forward to in their upcoming celebrations!  and although we got a tiny sprinkle of rain, the happy couples still came out to enjoy themselves, sip on champagne and sparkling cider, munch on appetizers, watch some wedding video, flip through photos, sample airbrush makeup, take a look at invites, sample cake, listen to music, smell some flowers and just soak in the overall fun and relaxing environment that was created on sunday.
 after touching base with all of the wonderful vendors who participated with me in this great, successful event, we all agree that another will HAVE to take place!
thank you to all of the attendees for coming and taking part in our event!  and thank you to all of the other vendors for your hard work and efforts; this was an awesome group to work with!   yas and deshun of dapper images . . . vynce of music phreek . . .  jesse of lighting phreek . . . tina and tuan of everlasting video . . . leigh of posies . . . ann of flirt makeup . . . nicole of paper scissors print . . . renee from the french gourmet . . . thank you, thank you, thank you!  you are all such great people and talents, and i look forward to future sip & sees and weddings and events together!  and an extra thank you to yas and deshun for so generously opening their beautiful home to us all for this event!
i would also like to give a shout-out to my new helper, monica, who totally rocked it!  she worked her rear off at the sip & see to help us all stay on track and chatting up the attendees.  thank you monica!!!
here are some fabulous photos of the event, compliments of dapper images of course, including some gorgeous photos of the beautiful table scapes that the talented leigh of posies and i designed together for the event, featuring paperie products of paper scissors print  and linens provided by raphael’s party rentals!  so fun!!!
mmmmmmmm . . . chocolate!
Filed under: vendor feature — Angie @ 10:13 pm
last week, colleen and i were lucky enough to be invited and pay a visit to the studio of nada adjadj and the home of sobelle favors.   i had the opportunity to meet nada and get my first taste of sobelle’s chocolates {yes, pun intended!} at the bridal consultant’s afternoon tea that i attended a few weekend ago.  (refer to the blog post from 01.24.2010)  so of course i jumped at the chance of taking a field trip to see where she creates.  what an absolute treat!  not only is nada one of the most lovely people i’ve been so lucky to meet, but her demeanor and personality are just as sweet and beautiful as her chocolate favors!
sobelle - p5[2]
sobelle provides chocolate favors, personalized and decorated to fit any event.  all of the chocolates and the majority of the decor and “flair” for the favors are imported from various countries in europe, the mediterranean and the middle east.  each year, nada takes a trip across seas to see what new  products are available to her that she may use to continue providing fresh, new ideas and favors to her clients.  and, to keep things interesting for herself!
sobelle - p2[2]
when colleen and i walked into the sobelle studio, we were amazed at everything that we saw.  hundreds of little chocolates on display, all wrapped in various pretty papers, gorgeous and colorful ribbons, shiny and sparkling gems, small ornaments and embellishments . . . every inch of table, floor and platter space we saw held a new style of favor for us to see!  all of the favors were impeccably designed and constructed, and it was so evident that nada is a perfectionist, and takes great pride in her art, and is truly following her passion with her work.
sobelle - Special Occasion[2]
our visit to sobelle favors provided a sweet ending to our day!  thank you so much, nada, for sharing your time,  your passion and your art with us!  you are truly a joy!
